Today, Friday 19th September, communities all across Ireland are opening their doors to celebrate Culture Night | Oíche Chultúir, a national evening of creativity, connection, and shared traditions. From music and art to history and storytelling, it’s a chance to pause and celebrate the richness of our culture together.
Here at The Lansdowne Kenmare, we wanted to honour this special day in our own way, with something simple, comforting, and rooted in Irish tradition: our homemade brown bread.
Few things are as welcoming as the smell of freshly baked bread, and brown bread has been a staple at Irish tables for generations. To mark Culture Night, we’re sharing our very own recipe with all our guests, along with a bag of the dry ingredients to take home. All you’ll need are a few simple wet ingredients, a warm oven, and a little patience, and soon your kitchen will be filled with the heartwarming aroma of bread, just like it is in ours.
And because no Irish celebration is complete without music, we’ll also have traditional music in The Poet’s Bar tonight. So, after collecting your bread mix, why not stay a while, enjoy a tune, and soak up the atmosphere?
It’s our way of saying thank you for being part of our community, for celebrating with us, and for carrying a little piece of The Lansdowne spirit back to your own home.
So, whether you’re strolling through Kenmare for the evening, taking in the sights and sounds of Culture Night nationwide, or simply looking for a warm welcome, we’d love you to drop in, pick up your bread mix, and join us.
Let’s celebrate culture not just in galleries or concert halls, but in the simple, everyday rituals that bring us together, like breaking bread and sharing music.
