Exploring Kenmare’s Culinary Gems with Kenmare Food Tours

Updated: Sep 22

At The Lansdowne Kenmare, we’ve always believed that food (and drink!) is one of the most authentic ways to experience a place — its people, its passion, and its produce. Last month, our Operations Manager Eve Loughlin had the pleasure of joining Karen Coakley, the brilliant mind behind Kenmare Food Tours, for a delicious and inspiring morning of local discovery.

From Fresh Brews to French Flair

The tour began at the beloved Bean & Batch, where the scent of freshly roasted coffee and buttery pastries filled the air. Known for their commitment to quality and community, Bean & Batch is a shining example of artisan craft in Kenmare — and a perfect way to start the day.

Next, we stepped into the charming Maison Gourmet, where French baking meets Irish hospitality. Think golden croissants, delicate tarts, and the kind of handmade treats that speak of tradition and heart. With every bite, you could feel the care and craft behind the counter.

A visit to Heidi Ryan’s followed — a hidden gem filled with fine Irish cheeses, gourmet deli items, and handmade hampers. Heidi’s passion for Irish producers is infectious, and her shop is a must-visit for anyone looking to take a slice of Kenmare home with them.

Raising a Glass at Tom Crean’s Brewery.

A highlight of the morning was a visit to the award-winning Tom Crean’s Brewery, where we sampled craft beers inspired by the legendary Antarctic explorer himself. Brewed right here in Kenmare, each pint tells a story of adventure, resilience, and local pride. It was a fantastic way to bring the group together and toast the talent and creativity brewing (quite literally) in this town.

The Lansdowne Joins the Tour

We’re thrilled to announce that The Lansdowne Kenmare will now be part of the Kenmare Food Tour experience in the coming weeks. Tour guests will be welcomed into our 240 year old historic hotel to discover how we showcase local, seasonal ingredients in beautifully curated dishes — from breakfast right through to dinner.

We’ll also proudly highlight our Good Food Ireland accreditation, a respected mark that recognises our commitment to sourcing locally and delivering true Irish food experiences with warmth and integrity.

A Shared Food Philosophy

Being part of Karen’s tour reminded us how deeply connected Kenmare’s food scene is — from the growers and brewers to the bakers and chefs. Each stop along the way was more than just a taste; it was a story, a connection, and a celebration of community.

Whether it’s sipping a craft ale at Tom Crean’s, biting into a crusty sourdough at Bean & Batch, or enjoying a carefully prepared meal here at The Lansdowne, Kenmare’s food scene is as rich and inviting as the landscape that surrounds it.

We can’t wait to welcome food tour guests through our doors and share our love of local food, Irish hospitality, and memorable moments at the table. Book your stay, book your tour, and come hungry stay@lansdownekenmare.com
