The Lansdowne Heritage Week History Tour
Tuesday 18th & Saturday 22nd August
2pm

This Heritage Week, we are delighted to open the doors of The Lansdowne and invite you to join
Patrick Hanley for a complimentary historical tour and talk exploring the remarkable story of The Lansdowne, the Lansdowne Estate and the Kenmare that grew around it.
His parents, Bobby and Breda Hanley, welcomed visitors to Kenmare for decades and, from the 1970s onwards, organised their own tours from the Lansdowne Arms, introducing generations of guests to Kenmare, Kerry and the surrounding countryside.
Bobby’s connection with the history and development of Kenmare went far beyond the hotel. Through his work with the Kenmare Development Association, he was deeply involved in the town and in preserving and promoting the heritage that makes Kenmare so special. Now Patrick is continuing a tradition that began in his own family more than half a century ago. Beginning inside The Lansdowne, he will uncover some of the stories hidden within its walls before exploring its connection to the great Lansdowne Estate and the development of Kenmare itself, from the people who lived and worked here to some of the extraordinary chapters the building has witnessed over the generations. And, as these wonderful old photographs remind us, The Lansdowne has been standing at the heart of Kenmare while the town changed around it.
