The Feeling Above your Head

What makes a hotel is never simply what you see. It is the feeling.
The feeling when you walk through the door.
The warmth in the welcome.
The quiet sense that a place is loved, cared for, and lived in properly.
Of course, beautiful things help shape that experience. The original fireplaces, the warm lighting, the soft furnishings. The history held gently within the walls. And yes, the crystal chandeliers that have watched generations pass through the lobby since the days of Breda and Bobby. But those pieces only matter because of the people who care for them.
Over the past days, our Housekeeping Manager, Daiva, has been carefully working through each of our lobby chandeliers and this is not a quick task.
Every single crystal is removed by hand.
Each piece washed, dried, polished, and rehung individually.
Hundreds of small elements, each handled with patience and precision.
It is meticulous work. Quiet work. The kind guests rarely see. Yet it is exactly this attention that preserves the character of a historic house like ours.
When something is cared for properly, you can feel it even if you cannot explain why.
These chandeliers are part of The Lansdowne’s story. They have shone over conversations, celebrations, reunions, quiet mornings, and winter evenings by the fire for decades.
Maintaining them is not about polish or perfection.
It is about respect for what came before us, and pride in what we continue today.
We are incredibly proud of Daiva and the extraordinary care she brings to her work. Her dedication reflects something deeper about our team. The understanding that hospitality lives in the details nobody applauds.
So next time you visit, take a moment to look up.
If the light feels a little brighter, if the room seems to sparkle just that bit more, you might just be seeing the stars.
